My impact on the eco score

Let's discover together how every choice, from transportation to washing, influences the carbon footprint of our products and how, as consumers, you can make a difference.
3.1 Analysis and impact of scores
Misconception alert: Transportation isn't necessarily the most polluting! Indeed, Ecobalyse provides us with a detailed score in several categories ranging from product use to its end of life, including transportation. The overall score for our Altitude jersey, for example, can be broken down to analyze the impact of each stage of the product's life cycle. Thus, "use" represents 33.08% of its carbon footprint, while "transport" only represents 0.99%. This result is explained by the fact that our jersey is made in France, thus reducing the carbon footprint linked to transportation. On the other hand, the frequency of washing the product, which is part of use, has a significant impact on its final carbon footprint. Ultimately, it is more the use of the product that pollutes rather than transportation in the case of our Altitude jersey.
Alert #2: The choice of raw materials and product processing are the two other steps that have the greatest impact on the final carbon footprint. This observation confirms our choice of raw materials. Indeed, we seek to favor recycled materials such as polyester from Europe or raw materials made in France according to precise ethical and environmental criteria.
3.2 Why do I have an impact (positive and negative)?
Enough about us, what also matters is how you consume. At Matchy, our products are designed to last and be durable. Therefore, caring for your bib shorts or jersey is essential. Washing bib shorts, for example, isn't essential after every ride.
Alert #3 : and yes, just because you don't wash your cycling shorts after your trip around the lake doesn't mean you're a slob. It's actually better to hand wash them or machine wash them inside out and protected by a net. These details help improve the durability of your products and therefore minimize their final environmental impact.
The results obtained with Ecobalyse reinforce our choice to favor French and Italian production, which allows us to prioritize short supply chains and drastically reduce the carbon footprint linked to transport. Indeed, producing in France means participating in the creation of jobs in the textile industry, benefiting from less polluting production than in other countries using coal, for example, while guaranteeing ethical production that respects the workforce and its know-how. Thus, when you choose a Matchy jersey made in France or Italy, it is not only our brand that you are supporting, but it is an entire French production scheme characterized by its know-how.
3.3 How to improve your impact?
